The Fingerlakes School of Massage starts their latest rotation at the Ithaca Health Alliance’s Free Clinic today. For the past several years, students from FLSM have done a few five-week clinical rotations at our Clinic each year. Each student massage therapist is paired with an established Free Clinic patient who has chronic physical or emotional pain.
One of the people who participated in the program last year said, “I had no idea that massage could make such a difference! I only had it once before a long time ago. Each session got better.” Even more than that, this patient’s chiropractor reports he is now able to do adjustments for the patient that he couldn’t do before.
Massage Therapy is one of the most in-demand services at the Free Clinic, thanks to our partners at the Fingerlakes School of Massage and the independent providers who volunteer with us.
Congratulations and a huge “Thank You” to our Champions at the Ithaca College Student Occupational Therapy Association for kicking off our Peaks campaign right away with $250!
Did you know that the Ithaca Health Alliance and Ithaca College’s Occupational Therapy department have been partners since 2008? Under the supervision of IC faculty, advanced Occupational Therapy students provide free treatments for Ithaca Free Clinic patients, by appointment, every Tuesday. They’ve provided more than 400 visits to our community at the Free Clinic!
Occupational Therapy helps people who have suffered an illness, injury, or have trouble with the skills needed for daily living. Occupational Therapists help their patients focus on their physical, social, and psychological needs, and to concentrate on what is important to rebuild their health, independence, and self-esteem. If you don’t have health insurance that covers Occupational Therapy, call 607-330-1254 to ask about an appointment.

Fabric Art by Mary Milne
Friday, April 3, 2015
From 5 to 6:30pm
Ithaca Health Alliance/Ithaca Free Clinic
521 West Seneca Street, Ithaca, NY
The Ithaca Health Alliance invites you to our gallery reception and kick-off for our April Peaks Fundraising Campaign!
Local folk-artist Mary Milne’s fabric wall-hangings explore the theme of environmental health. With the warmth of brightly colored cloth, Milne celebrates the ideals of clean water, healthy food and the regularity of seasons. Using a variety of textiles, with delight in details, her work evokes a benign view of our place in the natural world.
Talk to the artist about her technique and enjoy refreshments! Mary’s show will be at the Ithaca Health Alliance until May 20th. Check out her web album: http://tinyurl.com/oo3gqeb
